Film Friday: Our Camping Trip

Just in case you didn't get enough of our camping trip, I also made a little video with clips from it.  I really cannot wait until next summer when we decide to take the plunge and get our own tent so we can be out in the woods on a regular bas[...]

Film Friday: Conversations with Zara

I promised some more videos of Zara, so here's a little idea of what a conversation with her is like at 20 months.  This video was taken the last week of August, just before she stared going to "school."   And for fun, here is[...]

Nora at 5

Nora is 5!! We celebrated her birthday today with a party with friends.  The theme was Frozen, of course, because it is her favorite thing (like all pretty much every other five-year-old American girl) and I've given up fighting the Disney[...]

Film Friday: Summer Splashin’

It has been a long time since I made a Film Friday video, but lately I've realized that I don't have a ton of videos with Zara in them so I resolved to get back into the habit of recording little clips of our days.  This little video is from l[...]

Film Friday: New Years Eve

We had a blast New Years Eve with our friends and I decided to make a movie!  This is actually the first year that we did anything to celebrate New Years since, probably, college.  Chris usually works until 11:30 or so on New Years Eve and get[...]

Film Friday: Let it Snow

Last Friday, we woke up to a blanket of fresh snow.  I had heard rumblings of expected snow mixed with rain in the days prior, but I'll admit I thought that meant mostly rain with a few miniscule snowflakes mixed in -- after all it was sti[...]

Film Friday: “Yoga” With Two

We made a movie!  A simple one, but hey, something good enough to share for Film Friday, and that is pretty darn exciting. I enjoyed watching all of our old videos last week after we filmed Nora's birthday interview and so I decided I might[...]

Hello, Four

Nora has been four for four days now.  We celebrated with our usual family breakfast of her choice before Chris went to work.  She chose the exact same thing as last year: cinnamon rolls and berries, which we ate picnic style on our d[...]

It's that time again... Girl Scout cookies! And this year we have two selling. Help them meet their cookies sales goals by ordering online.

If you live nearby, choose girl delivery and help get cookie boxes out of our garage... Otherwise we're going to be giving them Girl Scout Cookies for birthday and Christmas presents all year.

Bus stop selfie with Nora. This week she moved from her tiny charter school with only 18 eighth graders to the public middle school with over 200. And now she rides the bus.

The charter school wasn't challenging her enough, has a huge percentage of students who are disruptive in the classroom, and has been having trouble keeping teachers. Last year she loved it. But this year it was one thing after another, so right before Thanksgiving she and I went to go tour our neighborhood middle school, and she immediately wanted to make the switch.

We've never had a kid in public school and I was nervous about how the transition would go from such a small school to a big one, but so far she's loving it and is glad she decided to move schools. It helps that she knows kids there already from her dance team. Hopefully she'll still be happy when she starts getting homework. Coming from a no homework school that may be a shock to us all.

Halloween 2022. Two witches, a murderous cat, and a creepy Victorian doll.

Zara's costume was my favorite this year - Nora did her makeup and she wore my flower girl dress from my mom and step-dad's wedding. She might have worn it better. 😂
