We said goodbye to Pocket today. She was diagnosed with Immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) right before my birthday last month. Basically her body was attacking its own red blood cells. She spent several days at the emergency vet, got a blood transfusion, and then I had been giving her medicine twice a day since. At first it seemed like the medicine was working but over the last 5 days or so, she started getting worse again and when I took her back to the vet this afternoon her anemia was so bad they didn’t think she would even make it through the night. It’s been a rough few weeks and a really rough afternoon, but I’m thankful that we were all able to get more time with her and say goodbye. She was an amazing dog. We’ll probably measure every future dog against her.
