Unlikely Friendships Can Be The Best Friendships

Once upon a time, seven years ago, I graduated from college, married my sweetheart, then followed him across country far from family and friends, so he could go to culinary school.  Not long after moving to New York, I managed to land[...]

Film Friday: New Years Eve

We had a blast New Years Eve with our friends and I decided to make a movie!  This is actually the first year that we did anything to celebrate New Years since, probably, college.  Chris usually works until 11:30 or so on New Years Eve and get[...]

Staying in the Room

The longer I go between blog posts, the harder it gets to start back up again. A lapse in blogging starts with family.   A welcome visit from one of my brothers and my maternal grandmother, who came bearing gifts and[...]

Playing Catch Up

I know, I know...that last blog post was a total cop-out.  I kind of love Wednesdays because it lets me post something even when I don't have time to type -- which was especially lovely last week because I was able to play photo dump catch-up[...]

Fun Along The Way

If you have to move across country, the only way to do it is with a little fun along the way. We took Saturday off from driving and spent the day playing around Pittsburgh with my friend Laura.I hadn't been to Pittsbu[...]

30 Days of Thanks: Diwali

Way, way back when...actually, even further back to when I was a junior in high school, I thought I was in love with an Indian boy.  That relationship is one big complicated story best told over a beer (or three), but the short of it i[...]

It's that time again... Girl Scout cookies! And this year we have two selling. Help them meet their cookies sales goals by ordering online.

If you live nearby, choose girl delivery and help get cookie boxes out of our garage... Otherwise we're going to be giving them Girl Scout Cookies for birthday and Christmas presents all year.

Bus stop selfie with Nora. This week she moved from her tiny charter school with only 18 eighth graders to the public middle school with over 200. And now she rides the bus.

The charter school wasn't challenging her enough, has a huge percentage of students who are disruptive in the classroom, and has been having trouble keeping teachers. Last year she loved it. But this year it was one thing after another, so right before Thanksgiving she and I went to go tour our neighborhood middle school, and she immediately wanted to make the switch.

We've never had a kid in public school and I was nervous about how the transition would go from such a small school to a big one, but so far she's loving it and is glad she decided to move schools. It helps that she knows kids there already from her dance team. Hopefully she'll still be happy when she starts getting homework. Coming from a no homework school that may be a shock to us all.

Halloween 2022. Two witches, a murderous cat, and a creepy Victorian doll.

Zara's costume was my favorite this year - Nora did her makeup and she wore my flower girl dress from my mom and step-dad's wedding. She might have worn it better. 😂
