Sunday Report Card

I’m up way too late considering that Nora and I are going off island tomorrow for a very rare vacation.  We are flying to Kansas City where we are so excited to get to see a ton of family from both my mom’s side and my dad’s side.  I’m just about done packing (just a few odds and ends left for the morning), the iPod is loaded with Nora’s favorite music, and I actually dug out a purse (which I never carry), but before I crash I wanted to share a quick run down of what we’ve been up to the last few days.

We’ve had time with friends

at the beach

and at birthday parties

(which is the perfect excuse to wear a fancy dress

and, of course, eat cake!).

I’ve been working like a madwoman on a website for Nora’s new preschool, which included a photo shoot of the building and some kids playing.

The shoot was a great way to introduce Nora to the space

and another opportunity for her to interact with her new teacher, Miss Melanie, which means when September 10th rolls around hopefully she’ll be nothing more than excited.

Now that World Breastfeeding Week craziness has come and gone, I’ve also gotten back to doing something I love: sewing.  I made a curtain for my friend Jess’ little boy’s room

and Nora’s third birthday dress, of which I’m only going to give you a peek.

But I will tell you that this year’s dress is made to match her party theme: her favorite character, Maisy.  I’ll share party details shortly after we get back, assuming I can manage to finish everything I want to do in just five days.  For now, I am off to bed before our big day tomorrow through airports and across the country with way more luggage than two people should need.

Have a wonderful time away on your vacation with Nora and family! Nora’s preschool sounds wonderful and the curtain is so cute!! You have many talents and are so hard-working.

It's that time again... Girl Scout cookies! And this year we have two selling. Help them meet their cookies sales goals by ordering online.

If you live nearby, choose girl delivery and help get cookie boxes out of our garage... Otherwise we're going to be giving them Girl Scout Cookies for birthday and Christmas presents all year.

Bus stop selfie with Nora. This week she moved from her tiny charter school with only 18 eighth graders to the public middle school with over 200. And now she rides the bus.

The charter school wasn't challenging her enough, has a huge percentage of students who are disruptive in the classroom, and has been having trouble keeping teachers. Last year she loved it. But this year it was one thing after another, so right before Thanksgiving she and I went to go tour our neighborhood middle school, and she immediately wanted to make the switch.

We've never had a kid in public school and I was nervous about how the transition would go from such a small school to a big one, but so far she's loving it and is glad she decided to move schools. It helps that she knows kids there already from her dance team. Hopefully she'll still be happy when she starts getting homework. Coming from a no homework school that may be a shock to us all.

Halloween 2022. Two witches, a murderous cat, and a creepy Victorian doll.

Zara's costume was my favorite this year - Nora did her makeup and she wore my flower girl dress from my mom and step-dad's wedding. She might have worn it better. ๐Ÿ˜‚
