Life As We Know It or Why Contracts for Deed are the Worst Thing Ever

I spent most of today in this very spot, staring at this very print.  In fact, it was the subject of today's photo for my 365 project.  I had a couple of maintenance requests to fulfill for my lovely past clients, and I finished up bo[...]

Why Colorado

Four hours later, I am still riding high on the excitement from tonight's interview with a local farm for a working membership to their CSA.  I have always enjoyed getting my hands dirty and participating (however possible) in the grow[...]

Chapter Four

In four years, this blog has taken me from New York to Nantucket to Wyoming and now to Colorado.  Four states in four years is a lot, but I cannot tell you how pleased I am with this most recent move.  I took a few days (err, 16) off from blog[...]

And Then Life Happened

November was the craziest roller coaster of a month.  Never in my life have I seen something go from rosy and perfect to miserable and horrible so quickly.  One week Chris was cooking in a cabin in the Big Horns for Dick Cheney and ju[...]

Exhaustion and Mommy Guilt

In my 28 years, I have moved nearly 20 times.  I lived in nine different houses in three different states before graduating from high school.  Once I went to college, I did the traditional move every year, and in the six years Chris a[...]

Buttermilk Biscuits + Our Lovely New Kitchen

I am in love with our new kitchen. It's light and bright.  It's big and spacious.  It's the first kitchen we have ever had that actually fits every one of our appliances, kitchen tools and cooking utensils, with room to spare.[...]

I Give Up — A.K.A The Photo Dump Post

I give up.  I have finally accepted the fact that real, actual blogging is just not going to happen anytime soon -- but what should I expect?  I'm moving for the second time in six months, with a preschooler, a baby, and a husband who[...]

A Toast

This evening was one of the best I have had in a very long time.  I am so far behind on blogging, it's not even funny...but that's life -- and, who am I kidding, that's one of the benefits of writing a blog without sponsors: no one get[...]

It's that time again... Girl Scout cookies! And this year we have two selling. Help them meet their cookies sales goals by ordering online.

If you live nearby, choose girl delivery and help get cookie boxes out of our garage... Otherwise we're going to be giving them Girl Scout Cookies for birthday and Christmas presents all year.

Bus stop selfie with Nora. This week she moved from her tiny charter school with only 18 eighth graders to the public middle school with over 200. And now she rides the bus.

The charter school wasn't challenging her enough, has a huge percentage of students who are disruptive in the classroom, and has been having trouble keeping teachers. Last year she loved it. But this year it was one thing after another, so right before Thanksgiving she and I went to go tour our neighborhood middle school, and she immediately wanted to make the switch.

We've never had a kid in public school and I was nervous about how the transition would go from such a small school to a big one, but so far she's loving it and is glad she decided to move schools. It helps that she knows kids there already from her dance team. Hopefully she'll still be happy when she starts getting homework. Coming from a no homework school that may be a shock to us all.

Halloween 2022. Two witches, a murderous cat, and a creepy Victorian doll.

Zara's costume was my favorite this year - Nora did her makeup and she wore my flower girl dress from my mom and step-dad's wedding. She might have worn it better. 😂

Visiting my sweet tiny niece. I had the honor of being the doula at her birth and helping her come into the world. Her parents did amazingly (especially her mama) and everyone is excited to have another little girl in the family.
