30 Days of Thanks: Thanksgiving

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and stuffed themselves just full enough with wonderful food.  We had a wonderful feast filled with all the usual suspects, minus the turkey, of course, and with a few delicious chef Chris twists.  We did our normal holiday division of labor: I bake the pies and rolls the night before, and Chris handles everything else, cooking about about seven things in oh, about an hour — just enough time for Nora and I to rig up a centerpiece and set the table. Then we all sat down together and ate Chris’ magical cooking to our heart’s content. Nora was more than a little amazed at the incredible variety on her plate  and she tried at least a bite of everything, although the rolls and cranberry sauce were clearly her favorites.  (P.S. I couldn’t help thinking as she sat at the table eating off a real plate, how quickly things change.  It seems like just yesterday she was falling asleep in her Thanksgiving dinner…)

After dinner, we spent a quiet evening lazing about the living room, watching Nora put on shows (her new favorite activity) and skyping with our family far across the country.  We even managed to get some semblance of a family (self) portrait.(maybe someday I’ll have a tripod and a remote clicker.)

It was a wonderful day and exactly what a holiday should be, even if we were further away from family than we might have liked.  Today I am thankful for so many things, but I am most especially thankful for my wonderful husband Chris.  He is a loving partner and an amazing dad — I couldn’t imagine anyone better with whom to spend my life or raise children.  And, of course, it doesn’t hurt that, not only did he get up with Nora at 6:45 and let me sleep until 9:30 this morning, but he also cooked an amazing meal AND he washed all the dishes. How did I get so lucky?

  1. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loving family! Chef Chris is soooo talented–food looks amazing! I was alot more stressed fixing our feast, but it was pretty darned good! Would love to make a trip to Brotherhood–a bit far from the Chesapeake. Enjoy your holidays!!!
