30 Days of Thanks: Being a Renter

I don’t think I ever thought I would say it…but I am very thankful to be a renter right now.

Between Chris’s work situation, the damage to our roof during the nor’easter, and the fact that my washing machine broke last week (you may have seen this photo on Facebook of Nora and me doing laundry in the bathtub), I am, quite possibly for the first time ever, feeling lucky to be renting.

As much as I want so very much to own my own house, there are definitely some benefits to not being a homeowner.  As my new washing machine was being delivered today, I couldn’t help but think just how much more stressful life would be if, on top of losing income for 12 weeks, we were also trying to figure out how to pay for a new roof, a new washing machine, and maintain mortgage payments.  Today I am so thankful those things aren’t part of the equation!
