The Work/Life Balance Project

I'm writing this post as we drive down the highway in the middle of Tennessee. We're headed back home from a visit to my mom's house outside Detroit.  This would seem like a normal Christmas voyage, except two things are different: "hom[...]

Maternity Leave for Small Business Owners

On May 9th, I gave birth to our third daughter, Adelaide, while running on just an hour of sleep, following a 10 hour work day into the wee hours of the morning.  Adelaide was born at noon; I rested, ate food, worked to get our breastfeedin[...]

Adelaide’s Birth Story

Adelaide is 6 weeks old today.  I started writing this blog post two weeks ago, but today it's getting posted, no matter what. After both Nora's birth and Zara's birth, I had their stories written within a week, but this time around it's[...]

Go Code Colorado: Amazing Experience, Challenging for Parents & Entrepreneurs

Last year, I competed in Go Code Colorado, a combination business startup and app development competition hosted by the Colorado Secretary of State's office.  This weekend is "challenge weekend" for the annual competition, so I though[...]

If You’re Serious About Business, You Have To Put Your Kids in Daycare

Friday, on my Facebook Page, I shared this video of Professor Robert Kelly being interviewed by the BBC, and having his children walk into the room: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mh4f9AYRCZY It's quite the funny little moment (although p[...]

Camping Throwback: Gordon Gulch

It's Saturday and as it gets closer to spring, I'm dreaming more and more about camping, so I thought I might post a throwback to our first camping trip last summer.  During our first year of regular camping in 2015, we learned that we much pre[...]

Saying Hello

It's been 416 days since I took down my website, to take, what I thought would be, a 6 month hiatus from blogging.  It was both an easy and hard decision, but most certainly the right one for where my life was in January of last year. Si[...]

Adventuring into a New Year – Wordlessly

Today, Zara turned three.  That means it has been almost three years since we moved off Nantucket.  It means that we have now lived off island post Nantucket for the same amount of time that we called ourselves Nantucketers.  Eve[...]

We had a cold snap and yesterday we had to get all bundled up for Zara's soccer game. It was 30 degrees and, despite these pictures, Vivi's patience for being out there did not last long. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 80 degrees and we're really looking forward to warmth again.

By the way, my awesome gaiter came from our client @isacattostudio. Isa paints patterns and makes really beautiful textiles and notebooks with her patterns. ♥️ her work and team.

Yesterday we got our first taste of summer. It was warm enough that we got out the sprinkler in the afternoon. I worked most of the day but had a nice break for a couple hours in the afternoon during which I sat outside listening to music and watching the 4 of them dance in the yard. I couldn't ask for much more on a Monday.

Walking around the neighborhood with Z and I'm reliving my first experience with entrepreneurship: @girlscouts cookie sales. My mom was our troop leader (all the way through Juniors) and I remember our garage piled high with boxes and boxes of cookies.

It's fun watching Z try her hand at sales. She is fearless and no problem describing every cookie to complete strangers. Despite having never done it before, she has an incredibly aggressive goal of selling 1500 boxes of cookies. If any kid can do it, though, I think she can.
