Blog Change + Quick Update

In case you missed it, I revamped my blog this weekend.

If you are reading this in a RSS Reader, please click over to the site.  It is so worth it.  It’s much cleaner to put more focus where it should be, on my photos, and most importantly, it is mobile responsive!  (Go ahead and test it out by changing the width of your browser.  You know you want to!)  I have a few tweeks I want to do over the next couple of weeks, but for now I’m happy with the change.  I have serious website design ADD and just can’t stick with one type of design and style.  Thank goodness for WordPress and Genesis which allow me to easily and quickly make style changes.

Besides changing designs, we have been doing our very best to stay cool during this indian summer.  I may not have mentioned it, but we go quite the surprise the week we moved in: a completely non-functional air conditioning unit, despite the disclosure statement and inspection both stating that it worked.  Since closing had already happened when we made this discovery, there wasn’t much we could do besides sue someone.  As much as I would love to cause trouble for our home inspector, we realized that the trouble and cost of a lawsuit would probably not be worth it, so we are currently living AC free.  Until the last couple of days, it hasn’t seemed to matter, but lately there have been some super hot days (as in 92F at 6 pm), which is why most photos of Zara lately are clothes-less.

Sometimes we even get wild and crazy and let her behind air out outside, too.

Because there’s no better way to celebrate having your own yard than sitting around in your birthday suit on a hot day…unless, of course, you’re running through the sprinklers

or swimming in your new pool.

Luckily for us (or unluckily as we may soon think), cold weather is just around the corner.

I was going to post a homeschool update today with some free printables, but I just didn’t get it finished up so it’s going to happen tomorrow.  I’m very excited, because we did end up finding someone to help me two mornings per week.  I’ll admit, I’m probably more excited than I probably should be, but I’m already thinking about all the things I can do in eight(!) hours per week.  She starts tomorrow, which is perfect timing, because we are already less than I week away from Nora’s birthday party!  I can’t believe Nora is going to be four…and I can’t believe how much I need to get done in the next five days!  I’ll try my best not to leave you hanging, especially now that I have this brand new, shiny and spiffy blog.

It's that time again... Girl Scout cookies! And this year we have two selling. Help them meet their cookies sales goals by ordering online.

If you live nearby, choose girl delivery and help get cookie boxes out of our garage... Otherwise we're going to be giving them Girl Scout Cookies for birthday and Christmas presents all year.

Bus stop selfie with Nora. This week she moved from her tiny charter school with only 18 eighth graders to the public middle school with over 200. And now she rides the bus.

The charter school wasn't challenging her enough, has a huge percentage of students who are disruptive in the classroom, and has been having trouble keeping teachers. Last year she loved it. But this year it was one thing after another, so right before Thanksgiving she and I went to go tour our neighborhood middle school, and she immediately wanted to make the switch.

We've never had a kid in public school and I was nervous about how the transition would go from such a small school to a big one, but so far she's loving it and is glad she decided to move schools. It helps that she knows kids there already from her dance team. Hopefully she'll still be happy when she starts getting homework. Coming from a no homework school that may be a shock to us all.

Halloween 2022. Two witches, a murderous cat, and a creepy Victorian doll.

Zara's costume was my favorite this year - Nora did her makeup and she wore my flower girl dress from my mom and step-dad's wedding. She might have worn it better. ๐Ÿ˜‚
