Note to self: when you try to do the awesome mom thing and take your kid on a leaf hunt

pay attention to where she gets the leaves from before she hands them to you…especially if you happen to be one of those people incredibly sensitive to poison ivy.

I had a really great post planned full of yummy apple recipes, but I woke up this morning to discover that what felt like one or two itchy spots the night before is now a full-blown poison ivy rash between my fingers, in spots across my hands and arms, encircling my neck and covering my face (eyes, lips, and ears not excluded).  I’m itchy and covered in a quarter inch of dried baking soda paste (which is dusting my keyboard with each tap of a key), so tonight is going to be short and sweet.  If you follow me on Facebook, you know that we weathered hurricane Sandy just fine.  Instead of worrying about wind and rain, I spent most of the day feeling sorry for myself and having flash backs to the battle with poison ivy I had while pregnant with Nora, which eventually took a steroid prescription to clear up after weeks of misery.

Here’s to hoping that this time will be better, lots of thankfulness that Nora didn’t get my crazy sensitivity and only has a couple of small rashy spots instead of an upper body begging to be slathered in baking soda or oatmeal or some other kitchen staple, and a tiny bit of amusement at the ridiculousness of a super-mom attempt horribly failed.

  1. You poor thing! So sorry, hope you feel better soon!

  2. Hope it clears up soon! Calamine or clear caladryl spray works well–doesn’t flake.
