Five Months

Nora was five months yesterday.  I can hardly believe that she’s almost a half year old!  She’s doing new things every day (like sitting in a grocery cart for the first time) and is so gosh, darn amazing.

Last week we were in California again and she chomped down on my finger not just with baby gums, but with her first tooth!  Teething and all, she’s a great baby to take on the road – so easy going and a great flyer.  People always come up to me after the plane lands to let me know how great they think she is, how “you wouldn’t even know that a baby was on the plane.”

Not only is she racking up frequent flier miles, but she’s talking up a storm and loving tummy time. Her favorite activities are standing and chewing…chewing and drooling, that is.  She’s incredibly fascinated with Pip, stares at him, and if he gets close enough will grab his fur, so he’s learned to keep his distance.

She bounces back and forth between our bed and her crib, still waking up around 4:30 or so to eat.  She’s had a few nights this week where I put her in the crib sleepy but not sleeping and she went to sleep on her own without complaint, which was nice since I’m still doing quite a bit of work from home at night after she goes to sleep.  We haven’t started any solids yet since she seems so satisfied with nursing, and to be honest, I’m trying to hold that off as long as possible – nursing is just too easy and I’m content with being her only food source.  But, in a very short month, we’ll have to start that road which will be exciting and sad all at once.  On that note – the track suit is size 6 months.

It's that time again... Girl Scout cookies! And this year we have two selling. Help them meet their cookies sales goals by ordering online.

If you live nearby, choose girl delivery and help get cookie boxes out of our garage... Otherwise we're going to be giving them Girl Scout Cookies for birthday and Christmas presents all year.

Bus stop selfie with Nora. This week she moved from her tiny charter school with only 18 eighth graders to the public middle school with over 200. And now she rides the bus.

The charter school wasn't challenging her enough, has a huge percentage of students who are disruptive in the classroom, and has been having trouble keeping teachers. Last year she loved it. But this year it was one thing after another, so right before Thanksgiving she and I went to go tour our neighborhood middle school, and she immediately wanted to make the switch.

We've never had a kid in public school and I was nervous about how the transition would go from such a small school to a big one, but so far she's loving it and is glad she decided to move schools. It helps that she knows kids there already from her dance team. Hopefully she'll still be happy when she starts getting homework. Coming from a no homework school that may be a shock to us all.

Halloween 2022. Two witches, a murderous cat, and a creepy Victorian doll.

Zara's costume was my favorite this year - Nora did her makeup and she wore my flower girl dress from my mom and step-dad's wedding. She might have worn it better. 😂
