The Countdown

We’re really getting close now, with less than a month on the countdown. Both Chris and I are getting excited to meet baby — and getting a lot more serious about getting all that gear.

I finalized our registry at Waddle ‘N’ Swaddle this week (adding a carrier, wet bags, and a breast pump – important stuff!) and took advantage of the 20%-off sale to buy some nursing tops. FYI – if you’re thinking about getting us anything, the sale runs this week only (Tuesday-Saturday) and is 20%-off all merchandise in-stock. If you can’t go into the store, Jenn, the owner, takes orders over the phone and will call Chris to pick up (so I won’t know). The registry will only be there for about two more weeks and then I’m going to have to go buy stuff myself (can’t wait until after baby comes to get diapers!).

We’re going to get our car seat this week. Kelly, my boss, is giving us a phenomenal deal on her son’s seat, which he recently outgrew. It’s a Graco Snugride infant seat, plus she has a stroller frame and two car bases (so if fantasy land happens and I get a new car, we will have a base for both cars) – and she’s giving it all to us of only $70! We couldn’t be happier, especially since we’re trying to keep costs down.

We haven’t bought the pack’n’play yet, so that will be next on the list, but I’ve been think about posting a “wanted” add on freecycle for one. For awhile we were thinking that a cosleeper would be nice instead, but they only fit beds up to 30″ off the ground (with leg exenders) and our bed is definitely taller than that.

In other news, Tom and Nick, the owners of the Fox and Hound were able to give Chris a few more evenings per week, so he’s working 24 hours per week now (every little bit helps). Also, Chris had an interview with Whitecliff Vineyard last Thursday and it went very well. He would have the opportunity to help out in the tasting room, with account management, and even learn about/help out with production. The winery is less than 30 minutes away from our house and is very well known in the area, so it seems like the best possiblity, yet. We’ll see…he’s supposed to hear something by the end of the week. In the meantime, I’m spending lots of time being his personal job search agent.

It's that time again... Girl Scout cookies! And this year we have two selling. Help them meet their cookies sales goals by ordering online.

If you live nearby, choose girl delivery and help get cookie boxes out of our garage... Otherwise we're going to be giving them Girl Scout Cookies for birthday and Christmas presents all year.

Bus stop selfie with Nora. This week she moved from her tiny charter school with only 18 eighth graders to the public middle school with over 200. And now she rides the bus.

The charter school wasn't challenging her enough, has a huge percentage of students who are disruptive in the classroom, and has been having trouble keeping teachers. Last year she loved it. But this year it was one thing after another, so right before Thanksgiving she and I went to go tour our neighborhood middle school, and she immediately wanted to make the switch.

We've never had a kid in public school and I was nervous about how the transition would go from such a small school to a big one, but so far she's loving it and is glad she decided to move schools. It helps that she knows kids there already from her dance team. Hopefully she'll still be happy when she starts getting homework. Coming from a no homework school that may be a shock to us all.

Halloween 2022. Two witches, a murderous cat, and a creepy Victorian doll.

Zara's costume was my favorite this year - Nora did her makeup and she wore my flower girl dress from my mom and step-dad's wedding. She might have worn it better. ๐Ÿ˜‚
