Weigh In

Friday was my seventh month appointment. It kind of fun going and seeing how much I weigh now since we don’t have a scale at home. 146 lbs! Four more than last month and my belly is 29 cm. The doctor said I have a “cute little boy belly” (meaning it’s all out in front). We’ll see if the only-out-in-front look holds up – given my recent taste for ice cream and whole milk yogurt, I’m surprised that only converted into a pound per week. I’m definitely into the dairy right now…never before could I drink whole glasses of milk and I’m having a much harder time controlling myself around ice cream – especially since Chris and I discovered Mary Jane’s Dairy Bar. Mary Jane’s is this fabulous place in Newburgh (about 20 minutes south of us). They have tons of delicious fried stuff, burgers (veggie ones, too), and homemade soft and hard ice cream and gelato. It’s in one of those old style buildings with a flat roof – Tasty-Freeze-esque for the Iowans – and is always packed. It’s all I can do not to drive down there right now. ๐Ÿ™‚

Speaking of food, Chris rocked his practical! He got a 95 and also the highest score of all the students testing that day. He’s cooking in the American Bounty restaurant now, but getting very close to the July break. He got a job offer from Painter’s Tavern, but didn’t accept it as it was ridiculously low. The chef wanted to talk to him about it, so there may be some possibility of a counter offer. Also, he will be interviewing at Junction 52 in Hopewell Junction, NY. I scoped it out for him last week after a job/education fair and really enjoyed it. The bread pudding was delicious! Keep your fingers crossed that he’ll find something good!

It's that time again... Girl Scout cookies! And this year we have two selling. Help them meet their cookies sales goals by ordering online.

If you live nearby, choose girl delivery and help get cookie boxes out of our garage... Otherwise we're going to be giving them Girl Scout Cookies for birthday and Christmas presents all year.

Bus stop selfie with Nora. This week she moved from her tiny charter school with only 18 eighth graders to the public middle school with over 200. And now she rides the bus.

The charter school wasn't challenging her enough, has a huge percentage of students who are disruptive in the classroom, and has been having trouble keeping teachers. Last year she loved it. But this year it was one thing after another, so right before Thanksgiving she and I went to go tour our neighborhood middle school, and she immediately wanted to make the switch.

We've never had a kid in public school and I was nervous about how the transition would go from such a small school to a big one, but so far she's loving it and is glad she decided to move schools. It helps that she knows kids there already from her dance team. Hopefully she'll still be happy when she starts getting homework. Coming from a no homework school that may be a shock to us all.

Halloween 2022. Two witches, a murderous cat, and a creepy Victorian doll.

Zara's costume was my favorite this year - Nora did her makeup and she wore my flower girl dress from my mom and step-dad's wedding. She might have worn it better. ๐Ÿ˜‚
