Finds of the Past Couple Weeks:

  • Breech Birth Stories, Stand and Deliver — a great round up of links to breech birth stories, including one from an American living in England who chose a vaginal breech birth at an English hospital rather than a US military hospital.  She said, “The secondary miracle is that an OB caught my breech baby. In a hospital. On purpose. As an American, I still can hardly believe it. He cried when I explained how it is in the States and how blessed I felt to have the team of providers that we had with us in that room. […]This was the mainstream medicine approach. We didn’t do anything sneaky or even unconventional. I walked into the emergency room with preterm labor and walked out of the hospital a few days later without so much as a single stitch, carrying a perfectly healthy baby girl. Take note, America.”  AMAZING.
  • C-section not best option for breech birth, The Globe and Mail — Physicians should no longer automatically opt to perform a cesarean section in the case of a breech birth, according to new guidelines by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada!!
  • Fuck You, Broccoli — Chris found this website and it is hilarious.
  • Raw milk: coming soon to a state near you?, Food Politics — Marion Nestle provides an overview of what’s going on in the world of raw milk.
  • Should the AAP Sleep Alone?, Breastfeeding Medicine — Why the AAP’s recommendation to never sleep with your baby may cause more harm than good.
  • Start saving now: Day care costs more than college in 31 states, The Washington Post –Article with a graphic on the difference between annual cost in dollars of infant care at a child care center and average tuition and fees at a public college.  I’m not sure if this means college should be more expensive or if childcare should be cheaper (if it’s even possible to devalue the work of childcare providers more than it already is) — or maybe they should both be free?
