A Little Pick-Me-Up

Very, very rarely, Nora has days with lots of this:

and this:
and even some of this:

Don’t hate me for taking this picture; I made it all better after this, I promise…

I know that temper-tantrums are a normal developmental milestone.  She has her own thoughts and opinions, and gets frustrated when things don’t go her way.  And no matter what we do, I think that a few here and there are normal, but it doesn’t change how heart-breaking it is for me when she’s sad.  I wish she could just understand that I know what she wants and why I won’t let her have it…but I know we have another 20 years at least before that happens!

Luckily, “normal” toddler crying episodes are few and far between at our house.  Nora is an incredibly happy kid, just as she was the perfect baby.  (A lot of which I credit to the fact that she’s still nursing.)  But for some reason, the universe didn’t align well this weekend and she had two sort of bad days.  She was super fussy most of Saturday (either crying or nursing) and was great Sunday, but woke up at 2 and we couldn’t get her back to bed until 4:30 am Monday morning!  I’ll blame it on the two more teeth erupting through her gums this week.

Needless to say, I didn’t exactly start the week off with my normal pep.  So what did I do to get back on track?

Well, morning tea with my girl helpsBut my real always-does-it pick-me-up?Baking.  Chocolate-Peanut Butter Brownies, to be exact.  Sleepless nights and parental frustration doesn’t stand a chance against homemade gooey goodness topped with a scoop of vanilla.

Hopefully the bad days will continue to be infrequent occurrences, or my waistline might have a problem…

You’re skinny as a twig so eat all the brownies you want (within your grocery budget, of course :-). I’m sure there will come a day when Nora is totally MORTIFIED that her mother posted a photo of her with snot running into her mouth for all the world to see. 🙂 Poor, sad girl – it is a slightly funny picture, tho’! Hope she’s back to her happy self soon.

It's that time again... Girl Scout cookies! And this year we have two selling. Help them meet their cookies sales goals by ordering online.

If you live nearby, choose girl delivery and help get cookie boxes out of our garage... Otherwise we're going to be giving them Girl Scout Cookies for birthday and Christmas presents all year.

Bus stop selfie with Nora. This week she moved from her tiny charter school with only 18 eighth graders to the public middle school with over 200. And now she rides the bus.

The charter school wasn't challenging her enough, has a huge percentage of students who are disruptive in the classroom, and has been having trouble keeping teachers. Last year she loved it. But this year it was one thing after another, so right before Thanksgiving she and I went to go tour our neighborhood middle school, and she immediately wanted to make the switch.

We've never had a kid in public school and I was nervous about how the transition would go from such a small school to a big one, but so far she's loving it and is glad she decided to move schools. It helps that she knows kids there already from her dance team. Hopefully she'll still be happy when she starts getting homework. Coming from a no homework school that may be a shock to us all.

Halloween 2022. Two witches, a murderous cat, and a creepy Victorian doll.

Zara's costume was my favorite this year - Nora did her makeup and she wore my flower girl dress from my mom and step-dad's wedding. She might have worn it better. 😂
