Blogiversary

It’s my blogiversary!

One year ago today, I wrote my first blog post on Au Coeur, In Like a Lion.  I was seriously missing Nora while I worked and feeling overwhelmed with the possibility of Chris losing his job, which would have further cemented me as the primary breadwinner – something I did not want to be.  I lived like a single parent 5 days per week, working and caring for Nora; because of his crazy schedule and the distance between our jobs, Chris didn’t even see her awake any days other than Sundays and Wednesdays, and rarely saw much of me either.  In that first post, I introduced Au Coeur, saying:

So, with the beginning of the month unexpectedly pouncing on us, I decided to start a new blog.  It’s for our family who want to see picture and hear updates, but it’s also for me; a place to work out my thoughts and emotions as Chris and I work to get our life where we want it.  Hopefully, this will be the kind of story that comes in like a lion, but goes out like a lamb.

Who would have that that only a month later the job he applied for on a whim would turn out to be just what we were looking for; that my blog would quickly morph from one about attachment parenting while balancing work and family to one about simple living and the art of housewifery in Nantucket.

In the year since that first post, I have written 149 posts, uploaded 1261 images, and received 357 comments.  I started with only 80 page views my first month and had 2147 during my busiest month.  My most popular post, Nora, the Prison Guard, went “viral” and was read by 754 people.  (The next most read post, No Easy Decision, was read 142 times.)  I know these numbers are small in comparison to many sites, but they make us (in Nantucket) jump for joy.

Thank you for reading my blog.  Thank you for commenting and thank you for sharing posts you like with your friends.  I can’t wait to see (and write about!) what this year has in store for me.

Hi – Congratulations! We’ve really enjoyed your blog and keeping up with the Hinds Family. Seeing all the photos of Nora has been wonderful. Wish we were closer so we could get together in person. The video is really cute. When did you shoot this? Love, Mom

Maybe two weeks ago? It was recently that I shot it. John rigged up the jumper to fit better in our doorways and she’s been loving it ever since.

It's that time again... Girl Scout cookies! And this year we have two selling. Help them meet their cookies sales goals by ordering online.

If you live nearby, choose girl delivery and help get cookie boxes out of our garage... Otherwise we're going to be giving them Girl Scout Cookies for birthday and Christmas presents all year.

Bus stop selfie with Nora. This week she moved from her tiny charter school with only 18 eighth graders to the public middle school with over 200. And now she rides the bus.

The charter school wasn't challenging her enough, has a huge percentage of students who are disruptive in the classroom, and has been having trouble keeping teachers. Last year she loved it. But this year it was one thing after another, so right before Thanksgiving she and I went to go tour our neighborhood middle school, and she immediately wanted to make the switch.

We've never had a kid in public school and I was nervous about how the transition would go from such a small school to a big one, but so far she's loving it and is glad she decided to move schools. It helps that she knows kids there already from her dance team. Hopefully she'll still be happy when she starts getting homework. Coming from a no homework school that may be a shock to us all.

Halloween 2022. Two witches, a murderous cat, and a creepy Victorian doll.

Zara's costume was my favorite this year - Nora did her makeup and she wore my flower girl dress from my mom and step-dad's wedding. She might have worn it better. 😂
