Saturday Surfing

My favorite finds from the past week:

  • Expecting the Baby, But Not the Pain – Wall Street Journal article about Hypnobirthing.
  • Licia Ronzulli Brings Baby to EU Parliament – Article from Britian’s Daily Mail discussing an Italian representative who wears her baby to work (parliament!) in a wrap.  Too bad all employers can’t follow the EU Parliament’s example…
  • Mindfulness as good as antidepressant drugs, study says – A new study published the Archives of General Psychiatry finds that depression patients in remission who underwent mindfulness therapy, a practice based on Buddhist Meditation techniques, did as well as those who took an antidepressant, and better than those who took a placebo.
  • Notes from the Delivery Room – an interesting poem about birth by Linda Pastan on the Writers Almanac.
  • A Sacred Journey – A fascinating blog post by Bellies and Babies about Native American traditions surrounding womanhood, pregnancy, and birth.  Thanks to Mamapokie for sharing.
  • Tummy Time: Why Babies Need More Than They Are Getting – An article on Slate that discusses the long-term implications of slow motor development associated with too much back-lying.

Etsy Love:

1.  Custom fully lined pleated collar dress in grey 2. 2011 Nantucket Mermaid Calendar 3.  Nantucket Starfish Little Girl’s Jumper 4.  Flour Sack Tea Towels 5.  Modern Bird Frame Pouch 6.  Recipe Cards 7.  Personalized Family Name Print 8.  Girls’ Custom Boutique Cat in the Hat Dress 9.  Massachusetts (from birds and blooms of the 50 states)

Z was Raja in an Aladdin production through her dance studio @pasgeorgetown this evening and she did such a great job. I loved watching her. She took a year off dance and is getting back into it and you'd barely know she took any time off, plus she had a big smile on her face the whole time - I could tell she was having a ton of fun. ♥️

What happens when you go on a long weekend trip with only your husband, no kids, and no agenda?

Lots of walking, cocktails in the middle of the day, singing at a piano bar, and time to write a blog post for the first time in nearly two years. Which I did!

😮 For real. LOL 😊

Today Chris and I have been married for 15 years. We're celebrating with our first weekend away from children while my mom watches all four girls. We rented an old Victorian from the 1800s near the coast in Galveston, Texas and spent the day at a spa, eating delicious food, walking the beach under the stars, and finished the night with a bottle of bourbon saved from when we lived on Nantucket. I'm not sure I could have asked for a much better day. I even had an oppotunity to get out the lightship basket purse Chris gave me for our 5th anniversary. ♥️
