Committing to 7500 Steps a Day

in

I got another @fitbit over the summer.  I had one a few years ago but it fell off my wrist during a 10 mile walking day in Phoenix.  This time I opted for a real buckle so hopefully it won’t disappear.

Over the summer I did pretty well on my step count, but since we’ve been back from traveling and going into the office, not so much.  I am not one of those people who have a hard time focusing – I frequently sit down at my desk at 9 am and don’t get up for anything until it’s time to get the girls from school at 2:30.  I get so engrossed in creating that I don’t even think to eat. There was one day last week that I looked at my watch at 2 pm and it said I only had 287 steps so far for the day.

This Fitbit also tracks sleep and you don’t want to know what my average sleep time is… If you are not careful, #entrepreneurship can be all-consuming… business owners can easily fall into thinking that you just need to work more to get business to the next level before taking a break, but the next stage of growth is a moving target. You may never get “there.” In the last few weeks, I have been trying to be more aware of how our business and the demands of parenting impact me, emotionally and physically. I want to make sure that I’m not always putting myself last.

This weekend I committed myself to 7 days of meeting a step goal of 7500 steps/day.  It doesn’t sound like a lot, but considering my normal is somewhere around 3000, I think it will make a big difference in how I feel and my sanity.  It will mean taking a break at noon, leaving my desk and going for a walk around the building, plus making sure we get a family walk in each evening and running on the treadmill at the end of the day to fill any gaps.  I’m telling you all so you can hold me accountable! Once I master 7500 for a few weeks, I’m planning to increase it… maybe get back to running. And maybe eventually I will be able to tackle the whole sleep thing.
