Why We Started Our Adventure in Kansas

in
A lot of people have asked me why we decided to do our first big trip around the middle of the country. It doesn’t sound especially thrilling when there’s mountains and oceans, and all sorts of “destinations” to go to in other parts of the country. There were two main reasons why we decided to start our grand adventures with a tour of the middle of the country. One was that it just seemed to make sense to save the big drives and far-away sights for later summers when we already had a feel for traveling with three little ones and a giant travel trailer. The second was family. We moved to Texas last fall so we could make our RV life possible and to be closer to Chris’ family. On this trip we made some much-needed visits to spend time with my family. In Kansas, not only did we get to spend time with my mom and her mom (swipe to see a four generation photo), but we also made it to a giant family reunion in honor of two of my grandmother’s cousins, who had a double wedding in 1953. All four spouses are still alive and this year they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. It was amazing to see that room packed with people I hadn’t seen since childhood, all celebrating an amazing feat of good health and partnership. ❤️ On Chris’ and my 65th wedding anniversary, I’ll be 87. I hope we’ll be surrounded with as much love and joy on that day. . . . #anniversary #family #marriage #generations #oldphotographs #fourgenerations #love #65thanniversary #latergram
