Cherries

Last week we went cherry picking and managed to find a few good ones. A lot of the cherries this year are pretty bland and watery, and many of them had split due to all of the rain we’ve been having. (Interesting fact: according to the Mohonk Lake Weather Station there were just five days in June with no rain, making it the wettest in 113 years. We had 13.66 inches of rain last month, up 9.67 inches from the average and beating out the past June 1903 record of 12.44 inches.)

Anyway, we took advantage of one of the few sunny days to visit Wright’s farm pick-your-own. Chris climbed the ladder and I stuck to the ground with Pip (who, we found out, does not like cherries).

Yesterday I did my part and pitted pounds and pounds of cherries(we got 18lbs, to be exact).

I made preserves, jam, and sweet pickled cherries. Tomorrow: pie. Yum!
