• The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Issues Opinion on Planned Home Births – still not supporting home birth, but ACOG did acknowledge that “A review of the data also found that planned home births among low risk women are associated with fewer medical interventions than planned hospital births.”  It’s a step in the direction of improving birth for all woman — hopefully they will now take that realization and try to figure out how interventions can be reduced at hospitals.
• Birth Control Update, in Thousands of Interviews – NY Times.  Interesting note is that a woman’s likelihood of contraceptive use at first intercourse is directly correlated to her mother’s education level.
• “Just One Bottle Won’t Hurt”– or Will It? by Marsha Walker, RN, IBCLC for the Massachusetts Breastfeeding Coalition – a summary of studies related to the impact of formula introduction.  This is only facts, not commentary – go read it and decide for yourself!
• A sure way to reduce unplanned pregnancies – Cheryl Gibson, Medical Director of Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, discusses the need for free access to birth control for all in the Concord Monitor.

This week, I’m in love with just one thing: Swirls of Sunshine.  My friend Kate, whom I’ve known since middle school, makes the most adorable tie-dyed baby and toddler clothes.  This week she sent Nora two dresses, and I can’t wait for Nora to be able to wear them this summer.  Nora was really excited about them, too; as soon as I opened the package, she wanted to put them on.  Nora is so into dress-up right now.
