Wordless Wednesday: Looking In

----- It's supposed to be Wordless Wednesday, but I have write a quick apology.  I tried to be sneaky and import all of the blog posts from our old "Hinds Family Blog" last night in preparation for deleting that blog. I thought that since th[...]

You Capture: Colorful

Just popping in real quick to say, I'm feeling better!  Hurrah for going to bed early!  And, I also wanted to share these photos that were meant for last week's You Capture post, which never happened because I got sick.  The[...]

Cold

So this week's You Capture challenge was to photograph cold.  Normally, in January, that would not be a problem -- however we have had an oddly mild winter.  It gets cold for a day or two, then goes right back to the 50's and 60's. &n[...]

Mornings

I've come to realize that we are on a completely different schedule from just about everyone else on this little island -- or at least everyone else with kids.  Play dates are, pretty much impossible.  Now that I'm working from home u[...]

Question of the Week

Tuesday in town, a reporter from the Inquirer and Mirror approached us and asked if we wanted to answer the question of the week and be in the newspaper.  How fun, we thought.  Of course, this week's question was, what are you thankful for? T[...]

Pat-a-cake, Pat-a-cake

We did a lot of baking this week: muffins for the La Leche League meeting, bread for our house, a practice cake for Nora's birthday.  Some of it was good and some of it was a complete failure. This is the second time I've tried to bake bread t[...]

Play

This week's You Capture theme was "play" and I had a hard time deciding what to shoot.  I've said before, my cellphone has trouble capturing quick movements, and now that Nora knows how to crawl, she is a super speedy girl.  She's now[...]

It's that time again... Girl Scout cookies! And this year we have two selling. Help them meet their cookies sales goals by ordering online.

If you live nearby, choose girl delivery and help get cookie boxes out of our garage... Otherwise we're going to be giving them Girl Scout Cookies for birthday and Christmas presents all year.

Bus stop selfie with Nora. This week she moved from her tiny charter school with only 18 eighth graders to the public middle school with over 200. And now she rides the bus.

The charter school wasn't challenging her enough, has a huge percentage of students who are disruptive in the classroom, and has been having trouble keeping teachers. Last year she loved it. But this year it was one thing after another, so right before Thanksgiving she and I went to go tour our neighborhood middle school, and she immediately wanted to make the switch.

We've never had a kid in public school and I was nervous about how the transition would go from such a small school to a big one, but so far she's loving it and is glad she decided to move schools. It helps that she knows kids there already from her dance team. Hopefully she'll still be happy when she starts getting homework. Coming from a no homework school that may be a shock to us all.

Halloween 2022. Two witches, a murderous cat, and a creepy Victorian doll.

Zara's costume was my favorite this year - Nora did her makeup and she wore my flower girl dress from my mom and step-dad's wedding. She might have worn it better. 😂
